Wi‑Fi QR code: how to set it up securely

A Wi‑Fi QR code saves time and prevents typing mistakes. Instead of sharing passwords verbally, you provide a scannable code that connects guests in seconds.

What data goes into a Wi‑Fi QR

This QR stores network name (SSID), security type (WPA/WEP/open), password, and hidden-network flag. If one field is wrong, scanning may succeed but connection can fail.

Choose the correct security type

Match the option used by your router. Most modern setups are WPA/WPA2. Selecting the wrong type is one of the most common reasons why scanned credentials do not work.

When to use a guest network

For visitors, customers, and events, a separate guest network is safer than sharing your main password. It also makes rotations easier without affecting internal devices.

Printing and placement tips

Use high contrast, readable size, and proper lighting around the code. Avoid glossy surfaces with glare and place it where guests naturally look, like reception desks or meeting rooms.

Maintenance and updates

If SSID or password changes, regenerate the QR right away and remove old copies. Label it clearly (for example, 'Guest Wi‑Fi') so people connect to the intended network.
